In 1988, Gerald O’Brien and fellow friend/keyboardist Steve Sexton, teamed up to form the instrumental duo “EXCHANGE’, as they both shared a mutual interest in Instrumental music as well as TV and Film scoring. Their first album “Into The Night” was released in 1989 on Passport Records in New York and to this day remains one of their most successful albums.
Exchange made it into Billboard’s Top 10 World Music Charts with their highly-acclaimed second album “Between Places” under the Mesa Bluemoon label out of Los Angeles.
Exchange went on to achieve further commercial success with the release of four more albums in the 1990’s, including the hit song “Til the Last Teardrop Falls” featuring Marc Jordan and Amy Sky, which was also cut and released by David Hasslehoff and seen on the TV series “Baywatch”. Another song, “Her Body Makes Vows” was featured in the feature film “Never Talk To Strangers” starring Antonio Banderas and Rebecca Demornay, and was later recorded by Rick Springfield.
Exchange wrote and recorded the soundtracks for the television series “The Legend of Prince Valiant”, (featuring Robby Benson, Tim Curry and Patty Duke) and “Phantom 2040”, (featuring Mark Hamill and Deborah Harry), along with orchestrated theme music for Fox Sports and the Tour de France for CBS. In addition, they have also had their music featured on the Ryder Cup, Baywatch, NFL Super Bowl, the World Series, ABC’s Wide World of Sports, the US Open, the Masters, the Olympics, 20/20, the David Letterman Show, and many more.
Exchange has been nominated for two Juno Awards for best instrumental artist of the year. Their music can still be heard today on numerous television shows and sporting events in the United States, Canada and all around the world.
Following a lengthy hiatus, Exchange have re-united and produced a brand new CD called ‘Eleven Eleven’ which was released in August, 2012.
